Bedtime

All the books in the TALKABOUT series are designed to stimulate conversation between child and adult, encourage the early growth of vocabulary, assist mental development and provide a sound basis for future progress in reading and general awareness. The pictures and page headings in this book are intended as starting points for conversations. Some children readily go to bed after a happy and active day; others can be reluctant and need encouragement and reassurance. Pages 4 and 5 help a child to realize that every human being and animal must sleep at some time, and pages 6 and 7 will help to reassure him or her that even when alone in bed the rest of the family can be near. Discussion about the picture 'Noises at night' can also give comfort to a nervous child. The illustrations provide opportunities to explain the reasons for washing, brushing teeth, and folding clothes, as well as opportunities to discuss concepts, such as 'over' and 'under', 'in' and 'out', etc.
