Boom Camp

Star Prairie was both old and new. The old was typified by the Prairie House, a sprawling redbrick structure with high windows and doors as though material and labour had cost little when it had been erected. Opposite was the Palace Hotel, a new barnlike frame structure on which the glaring paint seemed barely dry. When Bob Landwell hit town he soon realised that this was to be no quiet homecoming.
