Gil Favor hires on to troop three thousand head of long-horned cattle across a thousand miles of rough territory, He meets trouble every inch of the way. A gang of outlaws harries him continuously trying to disrupt his troop and steal his cattle. His own hot-tempered drovers fall out over two women Favor has had to take with him. Tempers flare, two men get hanged and more shot, but Favor's nerve is like steel.
